Marty J. Espe, DDS, MD

Doctor Espe grew up in Roseau, Minnesota. He received his undergraduate education at Bethel University and at the University of North Dakota. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. After dental school he continued his post graduate training at the Mayo Medical School and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, where he received his medical degree and completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Doctor Espe joined Northern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1998. He is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, as well as a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, and Minnesota Dental Association.

Doctor Espe is co-founder of the Great Lakes Study Club (a local chapter of the Seattle Study Club). He is a member of the Spear Study Club, Northeastern District Dental Association and the Duluth Dental Forum. He also serves as a trustee on the Board of Trustees at Marshall School in Duluth. He has also been a consultant to the Minnesota Services for Children with Handicaps program for almost 20 years and treated many children with cleft disorders.

Doctor Espe enjoys providing to people in need in other countries and has been on numerous mission trips to Guatemala to provide care in remote areas where he helped many with tremendous dental care needs. He also provided care to the people of Mexico and Jamaica while serving on the Mercy Ship, a state-of-the-art sailing hospital providing free life-changing surgeries and more. Because of his humanitarian work, the Minnesota Dental Association awarded him with the Humanitarian Service Award in 2009.

Doctor Espe loves spending time with his wife and three children at their cabin in Ely, Minnesota. His hobbies include cross country skiing, mountain biking, golfing, fishing, hunting and camping trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
