Duncan R. Puffer, DDS
Doctor Puffer is a Minnesota native, born and raised in St. Paul. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and continued his education at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, graduating with honors. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 1990 and began practice with one of his instructors in Burnsville until 1994, when he accepted an offer to join Northern Oral. Twenty four years later, he is now our Senior Partner! What an accomplishment!
Doctor Puffer is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology as well as a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Doctor Puffer is co-founder of the Great Lakes Study Club (a local Chapter of the Seattle Study Club), co-director of the Duluth chapter and member of the Grand Rapids chapter of Spear Study Club. He is an invited member and serves as President Elect of the Duluth Dental Forum – the second oldest dental study club in the United States! He has previously served as president of the Northeastern District Dental Society of Minnesota and president of the Lake Superior Study Club.
Doctor Puffer is constantly learning and staying up-to-date on the newest technology in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, especially dental implants. He does this by regularly attending conferences and hand-on courses all over the United States. Most recently, he attended the Seattle Study Club Symposium in Palm Springs, CA and will be attending the 2018 Osteogenics Global Bone Grafting Symposium in April with all three of his partners in Scottsdale, AZ. He annually attends the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons International Implant Conference in Chicago. Doctor Puffer has lectured locally on oral surgery and dental implants.
Doctor Puffer was awarded the Robert Beerhalter Award from the Northeastern District Dental Society. The award is presented to a member who has shown a high commitment to continuing education and is recognized by peers for clinical excellence.
In his free time, Doctor Puffer enjoys the Great Outdoors. His favorite outdoor activities include bow hunting, fishing, biking and hiking. He is a country music fan and regularly attends his favorite artist’s concerts when they visit Minnesota. He is a member at Lakeview Covenant Church and the proud father of three sons, and one fur baby – a Small Münsterländer named Daisy!
