Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

Please prepare yourself by following these instructions on the day of surgery.  FAILURE TO DO SO WILL NOT ALLOW FOR THE OPTION OF A GENERAL ANESTHETIC.

  • Do not eat or drink (even water) for 8 hours prior to your appointment time.
  • Patients under 18 years old:
    • A parent or guardian must accompany patients under 18 years of age.
  • Patients 18 and older:
    • Someone at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license needs to drive you here, drive you home, stay with you the remainder of the day & stay in the office while you are in your procedure (unless instructed to leave). 
  • Wear short sleeves – comfortable clothes, STURDY SHOES.
  • Do not wear contact lenses, earrings, nose and/or tongue rings or jewelry (except rings).
  • No acrylic nails, No fingernail polish (including gel)
  • Take blood pressure meds and heart meds at your usual time with a small sip of water.
  • Marijuana use: Refrain from using marijuana (smoking, vaping, edibles and drinks) at least 72 hours before scheduled surgery.  Note that this time frame may be longer based on what your surgeon advises during your consultation appointment.
  • If you come in with signs of being intoxicated or under the influence of any substance we reserve the right to cancel your surgery.
  • If sick with a cough, cold or illness your surgery will need to be rescheduled. Please call to reschedule.
  • If you have asthma and use a rescue inhaler, please bring your inhaler with on the day of surgery. If you fail to bring your inhaler, there will be an additional charge for our single use rescue inhaler.
  • If you start any new medications that weren’t discussed at your consultation appointment, please call and speak with clinical staff to update our records. Note that certain weight loss or new diabetic medications need to be discussed with your surgeon as it may affect the anesthetic plan.
