Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
Please prepare yourself by following these instructions on the day of your surgery:
Failure to do so will not allow for the option of a general anesthetic.
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK (EVEN WATER) FOR SIX (6) HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME.
- BRING SOMEONE TO DRIVE YOU HOME AND STAY WITH YOU FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. DRIVERS MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD WITH A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE AND STAY IN THE OFFICE UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO LEAVE.
- A PARENT OR GUARDIAN MUST ACCOMPANY PATIENTS UNDER 18 OR THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THEIR OWN MEDICAL DECISIONS LEGALLY.
- Do not wear contact lenses-wear your glasses if needed for reading.
- No fingernail polish or jewelry, including earrings.
- Wear short sleeves, comfortable clothes, and sturdy shoes.
- IF YOU HAVE AN ILLNESS SUCH AS A COLD, SORE THROAT, STOMACH, OR BOWEL UPSET, PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE. IF YOU ARE SICK WITH ANY OF THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ILLNESSES, YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL NEED TO BE RESCHEDULED.
- Children and diabetics should have a morning (am) appointment.
- Take your heart and blood pressure medications at your usual time with a small sip of water.
- IF YOU COME IN WITH SIGNS OF BEING INTOXICATED OR UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ANY SUBSTANCE, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL YOUR SURGERY.
- If you have asthma and use a rescue inhaler, please bring your inhaler with you on the day of your surgery. Failure to do so will result in an additional charge for our single-use inhaler.
- IF YOU START ANY NEW MEDICATIONS THAT WEREN’T DISCUSSED AT YOUR CONSULTATION APPT, PLEASE CALL AND SPEAK WITH CLINICAL STAFF SO WE CAN UPDATE OUR RECORDS. NOTE THAT CERTAIN WEIGHT LOSS OR DIABETIC MEDICATIONS NEED TO BE DISCUSSED WITH YOUR SURGEON AS THEY MAY AFFECT THE ANESTHETIC PLAN.
